About Us

ABOUT US

Music is a treasure for all. It is also one that gives happiness and joy to the ear of mankind. While singing the devotional Keerthanai, the high value thoughts and facts of life impress us to kindle our faith in the Lord. In an attempt to keep the spirit of traditional music and to tune the music lovers to the Carnatic traditional music, a group of music lovers had been able to organize Kristava Keerthanai Peru vizha from 2005 onwards annually. Initially, this vizha was organized under the Media Department of CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore.

Renowned musicians from Chennai, Madurai, Tanjore and churches take part in the programme, which is generally appreciated by the music lovers of Coimbatore.

There was a general desire to have a permanent structure to carry on this mission year after year and hence this trust ‘KEERTHANAIIN MAHIMAI’ was formed and registered in 2008, No:1138. The motto of the trust is  “paaduvom, paarattuvoam and parappuvom” The musical instruments such as Harmonium, Tabla, Veenai, Flute etc only will be used to emphasis the use of traditional instruments to accompany Carnatic music.

Every year the kristava Keerthanai Peru Vizha is held on 2nd October at Coimbatore. A souvenir is released during this vizha which contains articles connected with history of Kristava Keerthanai, their authors and other informations related to Carnatic music.

ACTIVITIES

  • PAADUVOOM

The sole vision of popularizing singing of Keerthanai in Carnatic music with traditional musical instruments among the present generation is  the main activities. In an attempt to keep the spirit of traditional music and to tune the music lovers to the Carnatic rhythm, the Kristava Keerthanai Peru vizha had been organised annually. Renowned musicians from Chennai, Madurai and Tanjore took part in the vizha, which were well attended and generally appreciated by the music lovers of Coimbatore.

Now days, different churches and Institutions groups are trained to sing in Carnatic rhythm. These groups are invited to sing in the annual vizha.

Moreover, the children of ‘B. Thangasamy Memorial Keerthanai training’(BTMKT) participated in the vizha. This year vizha was held on 2nd October, 2018.

  • PAARATTUVOAM

Annually, the kristava Keerthanai singing competition is organised for different age groups and prizes are given to the first three and the participation certificates are given to all participants.

‘Issai Charal’ is conducted here by inviting singer from outside and honour the singer.

  • PARAPPUUVOM

There was great interest from children who came for the singing competition for learning Carnatic music. This encouraged the trust to start music training class under our planned programme under ‘B. Thangasamy Memorial Keerthanai training’(BTMKT) in September, 2015.

Based on further training requirements, two more classes have been started in July 2017 for children and October 2017 for adults. In 2018, there are two classes with total strength of 42.

BTMKT trained group goes to different churches and promote singing interest in others.

KIM trust had organised two Keerthanai vizha outside Coimbatore, one at Salem and other at Lovedale churches for singing the praise of God in traditional music.
